The presence of TOC (total organic carbons) are undesirable in high purity water systems as they can adversely affect the performance of the water processing equipment and provide a nutrient source for bacteria in the water. TOC are commonly found in the ground water as well as many municipal water sources. Wavelengths UV Technologies provides a cost effective, chemical free and efficient solution in the reduction of TOC. The water passes through a closed vessel system which incorporates LPHO (low pressure high output) 185 nanometer UV lamps.

The system design, including the LPHO lamp technology, are proven to effectively reduce TOC to less than 10 ppb, and with appropriate pretreatment, can achieve levels of less than 0.5 ppb. Reverse osmosis and activated carbon are 2 common pre-treatment technologies.

The 185 nm UV wavelength has proven effective due to its absorption and energy characteristics promoting free radical formation which results in the oxidation of TOC converting them to CO2 and H2O.

The amount of UV energy required is impacted by several factors including, incoming water quality, pre-treatment, desired final result and the effectiveness of the UV system.

Dependent upon the application, a primary and a secondary TOC reduction system may be required to achieve the maximum reduction. In addition to reducing TOC, Wavelengths system also provide disinfection due to the design an specifications of our 185 nm lamp technology.
